(Original story 4/20/2018): Earlier today, concert promoter AEG Presents (the company that’s been booking shows at the Agora and the company that produces about 30 festivals around the country) held a press conference at the Rock Hall to announce the lineup for InCuya
, a summer music festival.
The festival represents a partnership of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the City of Cleveland, Destination Cleveland and the newly-formed Cleveland Concert Company.
The event will take place on Aug. 25 and 26 on the downtown Malls.
Rock Hall CEO Greg Harris welcomed media members to the press conference and described InCuya as an “amazing festival.”
“It’s very exciting,” he said. “We hear about other cities with these great downtown festivals, and it’s wonderful and exciting for our city to have arrived at this point.”
Mayor Frank Jackson was on hand for the proceedings as was Destination Cleveland’s David Gilbert, who said the event will add to the city’s already vibrant music scene.
“It’s right here in the heart of downtown,” Gilbert said in praising the city’s “gorgeous” setting for a music festival. He estimated that 30 to 40 percent of the concert-goers will come from out of town. Steve McHale, one of the organizers, talked about the origins of the festival, which he conceived a couple of years ago.
“We thought Cleveland is on the rise and our city is back,” he said, thanking several of the investors (including Scene’s owners Dan and Andrew Zelman). “But we realized we didn’t have a world-class music festival.”
According to a press release, the festival will “celebrate the origins, diversity, and evolution of rock with a music and cultural festival in the heart of downtown Cleveland on the Malls.” InCuya promises to be “a cross-genre, multi-generational, collaborative and uniquely Cleveland event with a mix of national recording artists, complemented by local artists and Cleveland’s vibrant city center.” The event will incorporate special "fan activation areas" that spotlight the city's award-winning chefs and restauranteurs.
The lineup will include headliners New Order, Avett Brothers, SZA and AWOLNation. Local acts such as Tropidelic, the Jack Fords and Seafair will perform too, and the lineup also includes Rock Hall inductee Booker T. Jones.
Early bird tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
