In the last two weeks, we've covered Forbes' declaration of Cleveland being the worst city in America for jobs and The National Association for Landscape Professionals' ranking of Cleveland as the third worst city for lawn health. Today, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has declared Cleveland the seventh most vegan friendly city in the United States.

This is the first appearance for Cleveland on PETA's list, and the recent explosion of vegan eateries and menu options at existing restaurants is to thank.

PETA cites pierogis as a major player for the cruelty-free food ranking, mentioning Pierogis of Cleveland which offers several varieties of egg-free and dairy-free options to enjoy Cleveland's signature dish.

Also included were the multitude of vegan bakeries like Poison Berry, The Cute Little Cake Shop and Vegan Doughnut Company providing a sweet escape for those looking to live a plant-based lifestyle.

For more savory options, PETA gave a solid shout out to Helio Terra Vegan Cafe's delicious grilled cheese, zucchini alfredo and their cashew cheese wrap. Cleveland's iconic Melt Bar & Grilled was featured for their excellent labeling of vegan friendly menu items, and Ohio City's TownHall was praised for their "Vegan Monday" menu nights, highlighting their popcorn tofu nuggets, tempeh gyros, wild mushroom chimichangas, and cauliflower T-bone steak.

This is an exciting move for Cleveland, and the expansion of Cleveland Vegan can only mean good things for the city's vegan-friendly ranking moving forward.
