Singer-guitarist Jesse Sloan Cherry (Cola Champions & Bethesda), singer-guitarist Ben Hendricks (Annabel), drummer Eric Sandt (The Ground is Lava/ Heavenly Creatures) and bassist Dan Corby (of Bethesda), the members of the Akron-based indie rock act Curtail, say their band sounds like “if Sheryl Crow wrote songs for Archers of Loaf.”

The Archers of Loaf part of that description is definitely on point as the tunes on the band’s excellent forthcoming debut, All Your Luck, feature tender vocals and undulating rhythms that recall the aforementioned Chapel Hill-based band.

Recorded and produced by guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Ben Hendricks in his Akron home studio, the album was mixed and mastered by Tim Gerak (Six Parts Seven) in Denver at his Mammoth Cave Studios. It sounds like it came right out of the '90s underground and evokes acts such as Superchunk and Pavement.

"Our songs remind me of hearing and watching the music videos and songs of alternative pop singer/songwriters/bands in the mid-late '90s and how they made me feel when I was 10 years old," Sloan says in a press release about the album’s release and the upcoming release show that takes place at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 25, at Musica in Akron. "That is when I was inspired first majorly by music. This music is trying to emulate that time."

The band formed in 2014 after Sloan, who had booked several local Cleveland music festivals, decided to focus on his own music. Champaign, Ill.-based Skeletal Lightning Records will release the album.
