Now in its ninth year, the popular retro gaming tournament is returning, and is heating up into a two-day Tecmo Super Bowl and NBA Jam tournament the first weekend of August.

What started out as a 5-10 player tournament vying for the Tecmo Super Bowl crown has grown into a semi-annual event much larger than its basement-with-three-TVs roots would suggest.

Last year, Cleveland's tournament was the second largest Tecmo Super Bowl tournament in the United States, and this year the event has added an additional day to accommodate fans of NBA Jam.

The tournament exclusively uses authentic NES consoles and Genesis consoles, as well as the original controllers for these systems. All competitors will play the games as they were created in the 1990s, complete with the thrill of locking a TSB cartridge into play. Tecmo Jam Cleveland is completely emulation free, offering the same experience of gaming over 25 years ago.

Tecmo Jam Cleveland will offer up to 84 competitive spots and initial group play will determine whether or not players advance to gold, silver or bronze brackets. Grand prize winners can receive up to $500, and all competitors will receive a complimentary custom T-shirt to commemorate the occasion.

The Tecmo Super Bowl tournament is Saturday, August 4 and the NBA Jam tournament is Sunday, August 5 at the American Legion Hall, Post 211 at 31972 Walker Rd. in Avon Lake.

For more information and registration details, visit the event's website here.
