JemCon, the annual convention that celebrates the truly outrageous icon, Jem and the Holograms, invades Cleveland this weekend. The fashion dolls-turned-cartoon may have aired more than 30 years ago but it’s maintained its robust fan base, while bringing in new fans thanks to reruns syndicating on Netflix and The Hub as well as the 2015 comic series which has received numerous awards and praise for featuring a female lead cast along with gay and transgender characters.

The launch of the new comics was so successful, a spin off series was created this year and the Integrity toy line saw success with its first doll 'Hollywood Jem,' selling out within two days of appearing at San Diego Comic Con in 2013.

After an intense bidding process, the Cleveland region was chosen as the official host site for the 14th convention. The convention promises to provide a fun filled weekend in a warm and friendly environment for visitors of all ages from all over the world.

“I am thrilled to have this wonderful event come to Cleveland, the home of rock and roll,” 2018 JemCon chair Rachel Pankiw said in a statement.“We have some amazing guests lined up who were involved not just with Jem but all the major shows and brands from the '80s and '90s. It’s going to be an outrageous weekend.”

The event first launched back in 2005, and fans gather from all over the world each year with some traveling from as far as The Netherlands to connect with other fans, discuss the show and the larger brand, and meet special guests who were involved with the show.

Jem fans will kick off the weekend on Thursday with the long-deserved appearance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the "Stay Tuned: Rock on TV" exhibit. At 4 p.m. the Rock Hall will also be putting on a special pre-JemCon event as part of their 'Stories of Rock' series called 'How Rock & Roll Infiltrated Saturday Morning Cartoons."

JemCon 2018: "Click Clash in Cleveland" will be held from Aug. 24-26, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Cleveland - Westlake and will include special guests, vendors, displays, panels, games, cosplay and more.
