Stop Reading This Headline and Register to Vote

It's been a hell of last two years since Trump took office, and many people are eyeing the 2018 midterm elections as one of the most important elections of our time. Unhappy with how the GOP is running the country? Unhappy with Kavanaugh being awarded a lifetime position on the Supreme Court? Pissed about local ordinances passing you disagree with? Sick of feeling like every day is just another waking nightmare in a proverbial hellscape?

Today is the last day to register to vote for the midterm elections, and Ohio makes it ridiculously easy to do.
  • Cuyahoga County Board of Elections Website

First things first: visit the Board of Elections website to check your voter registration status in Cuyahoga County. Click "My Voting Info" on the left-hand menu. This is extremely important to figure out if you've been purged from the rolls, to double-check that you are already registered and to make sure your address is up to date. If you've moved since the last elections, you'll need to update your information.

If you're not registered, there's a handy little 'Voter Registration' clickable in the same field as the "My Voting Info." If you're not registered, get registered.

If you're concerned about how you'll get to the polls, have no fear, Lyft is offering free and discounted rides for people heading to the polls.

Don't want to vote because you feel uninformed? Good news, the Ohio Board of Elections has a handy guide to all of the issues that will be listed on the ballot, and you now have 30 days to educate yourself. It's also available in Spanish at that same link.

Given the political climate in countries all over the world, voting in the democratic process is a privilege, and one that we should exercise as much as possible.

Hell, there was a surge of 65,000 registrations yesterday after Taylor Swift made her first political Instagram post. If Swifties can do it, you can do it too.

We’re keeping you informed…
...and it’s what we love to do. From local politics and culture to national news that hits close to home, Scene Magazine has been keeping Cleveland informed for years.

It’s never been more important to support local news sources, especially as we all deal with the ramifications of the coronavirus pandemic. Almost everything Scene is about -- our stories, our events, our advertisers -- comes down to getting together. With events on hold, and no print distribution for the foreseeable future, every little bit helps.

A free press means accountability and a well-informed public, and we want to keep our unique and independent reporting available for many, many years to come.

If quality journalism is important to you, please consider a donation to Scene. Every reader contribution is valuable and so appreciated, and goes directly to support our coverage of critical issues and neighborhood culture. Thank you.
