With his project dubbed PettyGrass, singer-guitarist Keller Williams and his band the HillBenders play bluegrass versions of Tom Petty hits as a tribute to the late Petty.

“There is nothing like a room full of people singing along to the same song,” Williams says in a press release announcing the group's 2019 tour that includes a stop at the Kent Stage on Saturday, Jan. 19.

For the shows, Williams will first perform a solo looping set followed by PettyGrass with the HillBenders.

“In 2015, I put together a set of Tom Petty songs to be done bluegrass at a benefit for my local S.P.C.A.,” he says. “I had so much fun putting the project together, it brought a wave of joy over me singing these songs. With his untimely passing, these songs have been pushed to the forefront of my mind and is seems like as good a time as any to celebrate, publicly, the hits of Tom Petty. These Petty songs lend themselves quite easily to bluegrass and by the end of the night, the audience will more than likely be singing in harmony."

Reserved tickets are $35. The concert begins at 8 p.m., and doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday.
