While many Clevelanders are blasphemously enjoying the first Christmas Ale of the season (it's not even Thanksgiving yet), a new report from The New York Times and Spotify reveals Lakewood listens to more Halloween music than anywhere else in the country.

Spotify indicates that there's a massive jolt in Halloween listening measured by the number of playlists with the holiday's name in them, about two weeks before the holiday, before culminating in a massive spike day-of, or more popularly, on the Saturday before the holiday whenever it falls on a weeknight.

According to Spotify, over the last 10 days, Ohio is the third most popular state for Halloween music, a drop from the second highest ranking it earned in 2017. However, when looking at cities, Lakewood reigns supreme over Downers Grove, Illinois, and Macomb, Michigan.

The most popular songs played are ones that thematically fit Halloween, not necessarily Halloween specific, like Michael Jackson's “Thriller,” "(Don't Fear) the Reaper," by Blue Öyster Cult, "This is Halloween" from The Nightmare Before Christmas and the forever favorite, "The Monster Mash."

Demographically, Spotify's database showed that of the top 20 Halloween-soundtracked cities and towns, all but three are more than 80 percent white (which does include Lakewood's 86.83 percent white populous). The most frequent listeners were women between the ages of 30-49, continuing to help stomp out the nonsense claim that women don't do horror.

While Christmas music is just around the corner, we can be proud that for now, Lakewood is keeping the Halloween spirit alive.

Mariah Carey, eat your heart out.
