The Ohio Citizens for the Arts (OCA) released a study today suggesting that the creative industries in the state not only beautify and enrich our communities, but actually stimulate the local economy.

The new report found that creative industries in Ohio not only bring in nearly 300,000 jobs, but also garner more than $41 billion in economic activity. (Yes, that's billion with a b.) Since 2013, the last time OCA released a report of this kind, these numbers have nearly doubled.

As Cleveland and Columbus are the most populated in the state it comes as no surprise they both bring in 22 percent of the arts pie. In Cleveland alone, the creative economy pulls in $9.1 billion per year, supplying about 62,000 jobs. Advertising and PR bring in the greatest share of this revenue.

Applying this data to the real world, OCA Executive Director Bill Behrendt told the Devil Strip that the study is a "representative of larger trends in the workforce and in education."

"[It's] what employers of the future will be looking for that’s not necessarily, ‘can you come in and punch a clock?’ It’s more, ‘What kind of ideas can you come up with?’” he said.

The Top 5 jobs for creatives in Ohio are as follows:
-Independent artists, performers and writers
-Advertising and PR
-Designers
-Film and video production
-Promoters of performing arts, sports and agents
