The sixth annual installment of BeatleFest is set to take place in Kent on Feb. 22. More than 20 bands will perform at 18 different venues, marking the anniversary of the Beatles appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on February 7, 1964.

“February is filled with important Beatle anniversaries, so it’s a natural for Kent BeatleFest to be held this month,” says Mike Beder of the Crooked River Arts Council, the organization that produces the event, in a press release. “Plus, winter in Northeast Ohio can lead to cabin fever, so it’s a great time for folks to venture out.”

Tribute bands the Liverpool Lads and Abbey Road will perform, and Cleveland-based OPUS 216 will offer acoustic-classical takes on Beatles tunes. Another act on the schedule, Across the Universe specializes in the music of John Lennon, from his pre-Beatle days to his last studio album, and the Colin Dussault Blues Project will become the Colin Dussault Beatles Project just for one night. The female duo Babies in Black will play early Beatles tunes on stand-up bass and guitar.

“Thanks to our faithful patrons, the participating venues and our generous sponsors — we’re able to continue this fun tradition that showcases not only the Beatles — but the great city of Kent,” says Marty Student, director for development for Crooked River.
