Hordes of Midges Are Showing Up On Cleveland Doppler Radar Again

With spring comes bugs — lots and lots of bugs, as caught in action on the US National Weather Service Cleveland's Doppler radar last night.

Shown above is an entire fleet of midges. That's right, the tiny, flying mosquito-looking insects are back in Northeast Ohio, as they do annually from late-May through September (when the waters of Lake Erie warm up to at least 50 degrees). Luckily, they haven't quite come inland just yet, but know they're coming for you these next couple days.

While the midges aren't here to suck human blood and are not harmful, walking through a swarm of them can lead to the creatures getting stuck in your hair, eyeballs and mouth.

Each round of midge infestations, always coming to us from the banks of Lake Erie, normally only lasts about 10 days. Then, rather than dealing with live insects, you'll find dead ones.

But don't worry, mayflies are coming for us next.
