In the latest news of top staff leaving Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish's administration, Sheriff Cliff Pinkney has resigned.

The paperwork was turned in today, the Friday before the long Memorial Day weekend, and Pinkney gave notice and his last day will be August 3rd, according to county spokesperson Mary Louise Madigan. The county will begin looking for a replacement immediately, she said, and that they thank him for his service.

Pinkney, in his role as Sheriff, was the top man in charge of the embattled Cuyahoga County jail, which has seen nine deaths in less than a year and which is the focus of both an Attorney General's investigation, which started with the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office, and various civil rights lawsuits.

Pinkney was appointed and then confirmed as Sheriff by Armond Budish in 2015, succeeding Frank Bova.
