The Shoreway's W. 45th Exit Ramp is Closing for At Least Five Months Due to Sewer Project

Starting today at 7 p.m., the City of Cleveland is shutting down the W. 45th St. ramp on West Shoreway eastbound for at least the next five months. Drivers are instead implored to use the exit ramps at W. 73rd St. or W. 25th St. for any of their Detroit Shoreway/Ohio City needs.

The closure allows the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District to continue work on the Westerly Storage Tunnel, which is set to stop 300 million gallons of sewage water per year from running into the Cuyahoga River and is part of the Project Clean initiative.

When all is said and done on this 2-mile, $135 million construction project, sewer district crews will be able to access the tunnel at W. 45th and more.

While the city optimistically says the ramp should only be closed for 150 days, that amount is still just an estimate. In the meantime, travelers will just have to deal with the inconvenience.
