According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Cavaliers are making history with the hiring of Lindsay Gottlieb, formerly the head coach of the women's basketball team at University of California-Berkeley.

While Gottlieb isn't the first female assistant in the NBA (Becky Hammon with the San Antonio Spurs was the first female to be a full-time assistant) this is still a landmark hire. According to Wojnarowski, she is the first women's collegiate head coach recruited to an NBA staff.

Gottlieb is set to sign a four-year deal to be a key assistant under new head coach John Beilein, ESPN reports.

Gottlieb, 41, has been the head coach of the Lady Golden Bears for the past eight seasons, going to the NCAA Tournament in seven of them and reaching the Final Four in 2013. She has reportedly been intrigued with the NBA and regularly visits the practices of the defending NBA Champion Golden State Warriors.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has previously acknowledged his plan to bring more females coaches and referees into the NBA.

"The goal is: Going forward, it should be roughly 50-50 of new officials entering in the league," he said last month. "Same for coaches, by the way. We have a program, too. There's no reason why women shouldn't be coaching men's basketball."
