Swing into Tri-C JazzFest’s 40th season! The Cleveland staple is back with an exciting lineup of musical acts from June 27 through June 29 in Playhouse Square. The 2019 festival features nine ticketed indoor concerts with a bounty of famous artists, and seventeen free performances showcasing local and regional bands on the outdoor stage.

Funk and soul band Tower of Power kicks off the festivities on Thursday, June 27 at 7:45 pm at the KeyBank State Theatre. JazzFest pays Tribute to Tadd Dameron on Friday, June 28 at 6:00 pm in the Ohio Theatre with the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and Dianne Reeves. Following that is the Howard Levy/John Scofield Combo 66 with Béla Fleck & The Flecktones — featuring Victor Wooten and Roy “Futureman” Wooten — in the KeyBank State Theatre at 7:45pm.

Concerts continue through the weekend. Celebrated violinist Regina Carter and her duo partner, pianist Xavier Davis, will take the stage Saturday, June 29 at 1:00 pm in the Ohio Theatre. Many more events speckle the day, concluding with Cleveland’s own Jamey Haddad, who will bring his Under One Sun project to the Allen Theatre at 10:15 pm.

The free events featuring local and regional bands — spanning jazz, blues, R&B, funk, jam, reggae — will take place outdoors on the Strassman Insurance Stage at Playhouse Square from 3:00 pm to midnight on June 28 and 29.

ChamberFest Cleveland enters the final weekend of its 2019 season, Under the Influence, with “Precocious Virtuosity” on Friday, June 28 at 7:30 pm in Gartner Auditorium at the Cleveland Museum of Art. The program explores powerful early works of prodigious talent: Mozart’s Piano Quartet No. 1 in g, Moritz Moszkowski’s Suite for Two Violins and Piano, and Mendelssohn’s Octet.

The series concludes with “French Connection” on Saturday, June 29 at 7:30 pm in CIM’s Mixon Hall. The program paints a nuanced portrait of French chamber music across the 20th century. Hear Poulenc’s Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, Stravinsky’s Three Pieces for String Quartet, Gérard Pesson’s Nebenstück for Clarinet and String Quartet, Jean Françaix’ String Trio, and Fauré’s Piano Quartet No. 2, performed by the Festival’s stellar lineup of artists. The Cleveland Orchestra and the Blossom Festival Chorus cast a spell with their opening weekend at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls. ENCORE Chamber Music keeps it going with a pair of concerts this weekend. Music by Mozart, Brahms, and Kodály will be performed on Friday, June 28 at 7:00 pm, and works by Michi Wiancko, Paul Wiancko, Dan Visconti, Leslie Adams, and Ernő Dohnányi will be heard as part of “Cavalier Cleveland” on Sunday, June 30 at 2 pm. Both events take place at Tudor House at the Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills. Tickets available here.
