A self-described local “comedy rapper,” Mayor Wertz draws from his improv background to tell funny and relatable stories that reference true crime, chicken wings and the “dad lifestyle.” Live performances feature a combination of jokes, storytelling and audience participation.

Now, Wertz has just released a new single and video, “Please Leave By 9.” It’s an ode to aging. The song marks the first single release since his full-length debut Try Harder, and it tells the story of a man who suddenly realizes he doesn’t want his friends in his house anymore.

“This song is technically a sequel to my previous song, ‘Twenty-Something Party,’ which is about partying all night,” says Wertz in a press release. “However, I’ve noticed the older I get that most of my friends start to bounce out of parties earlier and earlier — myself included. So I wanted to highlight that shift.”

Filmed by local Louie Kuni with assistance from Cold Robot studios, this video features local musicians such as p.stoops and Nothing Major’s Robem. Comedian and Improv Deathmatch creator Sam Dee also appears in the clip.

"Please Leave By 9" is available on all major music platforms, including iTunes, Spotify, Bandcamp, Pandora and Amazon.
