Russo Brothers Won't Be Filming Cleveland-based Movie in Cleveland After All

Anthony and Joe Russo, the Cleveland natives now most famous for directing the Avengers finales, will not be filming their next project in Cleveland, as previously planned.

Anthony Russo was in Cleveland last week for special events commemorating the sale of Avengers: Endgame on Blu-ray. It was opportunity to thank local fans for years of faithful support of the franchise. On media rounds while in town, he told Fox 8 that due to uncertainty surrounding the Ohio motion picture tax credit, he and his brother ultimately elected to film elsewhere.

Russo said that disputes in the Ohio legislature, and the film's production schedule, forced them into a contingency plan. "Even though the legislature reinstated the tax incentive," he said, "it was too late for our production to actually end up here."



The project is Cherry, based on the autobiographical novel of the same name by Nico Walker. It's about an army veteran who gets addicted to heroin and starts robbing banks to finance his habit. Set in Cleveland, the film is slated to star Spider-Man's Tom Holland in the leading role.

Production will now, in all likelihood, take place in California.
