A Reminder the Fighter Jets Over Downtown Today Are Just Practicing for the Air Show and There's No Need to Freak Out

It was both surprising and impressive to search Twitter yesterday afternoon after the fighter jets began buzzing downtown Cleveland and find almost no one who was taken by surprise, almost no one who heard the roars and saw the flashes of military might appear over the Lake Erie horizon and then took to Twitter to ask OMG what the hell is happening, are we being bombed, is there an invasion or terrorist attack?

We are heading into Labor Day weekend, after all, and Labor Day in Cleveland means the arrival of the air show, and with that the arrival of an assortment of jets and planes that on Thursday and Friday make practice runs and routes.

In years past, we've documented, more than a few Clevelanders either didn't know about the air show or had simply forgotten, which meant plenty of social media frenzy and confusion.

This year, we found but one example.

And said person, upon being told it was for the air show, quickly realized where we were in the calendar year.
The air show runs Saturday, Sunday and Monday at Burke Lakefront Airport.
