Beto O'Rourke Heads to Kent State University Next Week to Try And Convince Voters His Campaign is Going Fine

Texas Democrat Beto O'Rourke is coming to Kent State University Wednesday, Sept. 25, the school's College Democrats club recently announced.   The presidential candidate has been struggling in the polls (and to get a word in edgewise at recent debates), and is currently far behind fellow candidates and frontrunners Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Veep Joe Biden in the most recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll. In fact, O'Rourke falls behind eight candidates in total in the new poll, taking in just 1 percent of the vote.

O'Rourke, who famously lost last year's Senate race against Texas Republican Ted Cruz, had once been seen as an early favorite among the seemingly 200 candidates running for president in 2020. He was last seen in Cleveland in March, yelling on top of tables at Gino's Cento Anno.

Interestingly, the former Texas Congressmen had then said he did not plan to take your AR-15, but at last week's Democratic debate proclaimed that, in the wake of the recent El Paso mass shooting, "Hell yes, we're gonna take your AR-15, your AK-47, and we're not going to allow it to be used against your fellow Americans anymore."

The upcoming Northeast Ohio event kicks off at 6 p.m. outdoors at Risman Plaza. The backup indoor location is the Kent Student Center.
