Update: Currently in the midst of a crowdfunding campaign for the second season of its drama podcast Cryptic, the locally based production company Crooked Path Productions has announced that it'll donate 10 percent of the funds it raises to local food banks and charities in the effort to help those feeling the economic impact of the shutdown due to coronavirus concerns.

“While we want to press on and stay business as usual, I saw this as a great opportunity to give back to the surrounding communities in this very uniquely challenging time," says Jeremiah Isley, the podcast's co-creator, producer, director, in a statement.

Cleveland's Scary Halloween Forecast Includes Strong Winds, Rain and, of course, Snow

  • Let's hope that tonight's Halloween weather doesn't come to this.
Tonight's trick-or-treating extravaganza in Cleveland, running officially from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., is most likely going to be a scary one — at least weather-wise.

This fine Halloween, Cleveland's National Weather Service is calling for rain, gusts of wind running up to 60 miles per hour, a flood warning and also, horrendously, the potential for snow.

Making the forecast even worse, the weather service is saying that electricity outages are possible. (Although locals saddled with Cleveland Public Power know that power could go out at any time, high winds or not.)

Temperatures, which as of this afternoon have languished in the 60s, could potentially drop as much as 30 degrees.

Be safe out there, Clevelanders.

Big K.R.I.T. Brings a Family Reunion Vibe to House of Blues

Concert Review

EMANUEL WALLACE

Mississippi rapper Big K.R.I.T. (an acronym that stands for King Remembered in Time) has battled his own demons and wrestles with the duality of being K.R.I.T as well as Justin Scott. The rapper burst onto the national scene in 2010 with his K.R.I.T. Wuz Here mixtape which ended up landing him a deal with Def Jam Records.

His journey in the industry has been well-documented, but he has persevered and earned the respect of his peers and also helped to grow his fan base over the years. His concerts are notoriously known to be full of energy and theatrics, and the From the South With Love tour was poised to be no different as the show rolled into the House of Blues.

You can see a slideshow of photos from the concert here.

Red Steakhouse has announced an opening date for its new Orange Village restaurant at Pinecrest. Diners can look forward to a November 29 launch, say representatives.

The contemporary steakhouse clocks in at more than 7,500 square feet, with an additional 2,100-square-foot rooftop patio.

In advance of the Pinecrest location opening, the original Beachwood location is now permanently closed. Ownership is now solely in the hands of Gregg S. Levy, who also owns and operates Red Steakhouse downtown. Brad Friedlander is not part of this new venture. (Red in Miami is related but under different ownership.)

“When RED opens its doors at Pinecrest at the end of November, our loyal patrons, friends and family will be in for a treat,” says Levy. “The countdown to opening is underway and we can’t wait to welcome everyone to this elegant space.”

Executive chef will be Kyle Anderson while Stephanie Pack serves as GM. Red Pinecrest will serve lunch and dinner.

Update: Dual-citizen soprano Midori Marsh of Cleveland took home First Prize and the Audience Choice Award at the Canadian Opera Company’s ninth annual Ensemble Studio Competition that took place yesterday at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto.

Marsh won the $5,000 award, as well as a performance opportunity at Ontario’s Elora Festival. She also took home the Audience Choice Award, worth $2,000.

“Canada’s wealth of operatic talent continues to impress me. Each of this year’s Ensemble Studio Competition finalists should be exceptionally proud of what they’ve accomplished,” says COC General Director Alexander Neef in a press release. “The competition may be over, but their journeys are just beginning and I think I speak for everyone in the audience last night when I say I can’t wait to see what comes next for them.”

The Annual Cleveland Restaurant Week to Return Nov. 4-16

Posted By on Thu, Oct 31, 2019 at 10:12 AM

Cleveland Restaurant Week, an annual promotion offered at member restaurants of Cleveland Independents, kicks off next week. From November 4 through 16, participating restaurants across Northeast Ohio will offer special three-course prix fixe menus for just $33 – a price that has not budged for years. The event has always offered diners a low-cost way to sample new eateries.

Approximately 50 different restaurants will be participating in this year’s event, says Matthew Anderson, chef of Table 45 and Cleveland Independents President.

“Well over half of our members are participating in this promotion, many more than have been involved in the past,” he reports. “The model doesn’t fit all of our members’ menus, which is why we’ll never have 100 percent participation, but this is a wonderful showing of support for the community, the organization and our local food scene.”

For a full list of participating restaurants, including the prix fixe menus and ability to make real time reservations, visit the following website: Cleveland Restaurant Week.
