Indian Delight (5507 Detroit Ave., 216-651-4007) in the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood shutdown dine-in service around the first of the year to begin an ambitious renovation project. While the reception area was preserved to accommodate carry-out business, the rest of the interior was a construction site.

Now that the dust has settled, the 10-year-old eatery has reopened for full-service dining. While the capacity remains relatively unchanged, the look, efficiency, comfort and flexibility of the reception and dining room is vastly improved. Reception now resides in its own area of the restaurant (in space borrowed from the kitchen). Booth seating in the dining room has been replaced with tables that can be moved together or pushed apart in accordance with demand.

The menu has been updated as well, explains project manager Sam Dean.

"As far as the items themselves, nothing has changed," he reports. "But we condensed the menu in order to make it more customer-friendly."

For example, he adds, there used to be five separate entries for biryani, but now there is just one with modifiers for vegetable, paneer, chicken, goat or shrimp. An online menu and ordering system also streamlines the pick-up and delivery process.

Indian Delight opened approximately 10 years, but new management took over in 2018.
