Lake Erie Folk Fest
Sat., Feb. 27 -
A collaboration between the North East Ohio Musical Heritage Association, producer of the annual Blue Sky Folk Festival in Kirtland, and Shore Cultural Centre, a former high school turned innovative arts center in downtown Euclid, The Lake Erie Folk Festival starts today at 1 p.m. with a series of free afternoon workshops and mini concerts. Then, at 7:30 p.m., the local Irish act the Portersharks peform. The Duhks, a Grammy-nominated Winnipeg band, follow. Clawhammer banjo player Leonard Podolak, the Duhk's founder, grew up surrounded by folk music and now Podolak has led the band, which plays Celtic, old-time, Afro-Cuban and French Canadian music, to international acclaim. The event takes place at the Shore Cultural Centre. Tickets to the evening concert are $10.

Friday, August 14: Sunset Splash - FWD Dayclub + Nightclub Cleveland, a new seasonal, open-air nightclub in the Flats East Bank, which features a 4,000-square-foot pool and deck area with a full bar, elevated decking and custom day beds, is now open. FWD will play host to a Sunset Pool Party  reportedly the first of its kind in Cleveland  on Friday, Aug. 14, when DVBBS, a Canadian EDM act comprised of brothers Alex and Chris, performs. Saturday, June 27: Pride-ful Moment - The regions gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community is indeed proud. Each year, Cleveland Pride offers a daylong focus on that vast group and its myriad local allies. Via a lively parade, rally and festival, the organization hopes to shine a bright spotlight on the people who make up the community and the rights for which theyre advocating. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 29 at Voinovich Park, just north of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Cleveland Prides parade route begins at the holding pen located at Superior and West Third St. Pop singer Belinda Carlisle is slated to headline the event. (Eric Sandy, photo by Emanuel Wallace)
