If you only know prog-rockers the
Fall of Troy from their appearance on
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, that's just fine with them. When they play the Beachland Ballroom tonight, they won't shy away from playing "F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X," the two-year-old song featured on the video game. "When 'F.C.P.' comes, everyone just loses it," says 22-year-old drummer Andrew Forsman. "It's definitely flattering." Troy has capitalized on the
Guitar Hero notoriety while venturing onto new musical ground to critical acclaim and touring with Coheed & Cambria and the Deftones.
Manipulator, the Mukilteo, Washington trio's third album, drips with raw emotion born of the songs' depressing origins: The band members were broke, it was a brutally cold winter, and some of their friends had died during the writing process. The raw energy of "F.C.P." is still there; it's just a little more focused and polished, and it shows up best in concert. "People have gone too far with trying to categorize stuff in the last few years," says Forsman. "We're just a live band."The Fall of Troy plays the Beachland (15711 Waterloo Road) at 8 p.m. tonight.
