Crispin Glover was in town Friday to screen two of his films at the Cineamtheque and do some early plugging for his upcoming role in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.

He stopped by the WCSB 89.3 FM studios to appear on 669, a longrunning cult show that plays like an underground, heavy-metal version of The Howard Stern Show.

Glover talked to host Sweetass Sassafrass until the wee hours. The actor appeared on 669 the last time he was in town, in May 2008.

“He said he doesn't like doing many radio interviews,” says Sassafrass, also known as Craig Callander. “But he [said he] would do 669 because he enjoyed the listening audience reaction so much and felt that it was a great outlet to discuss what he is trying to accomplish in his films with people who ‘get it.’ He had been up since 5 a.m., but he still stayed in studio until 2:45.”

Craig Callander and his 669 Radio Show are local flavor that is tasty anytime of the day. Having a star like Crispin Glover on his show (a man of many wonders and obscure to mainstrem media) really shows that Craig can play with the big boys like Rover, Howard and O&A while not alienating his audience and having no budget. He puts on a show that is both so out there while still making each listener connect in some way; whether to obscure references to movies, music, shows or pure randomness. Craig/Sweetass is a man who deserves a big budget and a daily show... and here is to hoping for celebrities pick up on the true number one love of Cleveland Radio.

I guess I'm out of the loop. For years I've been complaining about the dismal state of radio, Cleveland's in particular, and here, right under my nose and left of the dial is this raucous, hilarious and subversive show! All the other "radio personalities" on our airwaves who struggle to be either relevant or outrageous can fold up their tents and go home, 669 is the cock of the walk, king of the hill.
