There’s no reason to hide the fact that its rough going for most print media outlets out there. You remember print media, right? The dead-tree edition of your favorite Web site? Okay, great. Now that we’re on the same page . . .
In our business, there’s actually a way to measure the death of print editions, it’s called the circulation number. Every six months, the Audit Bureau of Circulations releases the hard data on how many people are picking up the 25 largest newspapers in the country, the Plain Dealer included. Last week, the group released the numbers for the last half of 2011.

It’s sad , really. I still get the PD 3 days a week (I know, I’m old).
But most young people don’t read them, they get everything on-line.
I have to get the PD daily, my stupid dogs refuse to be house trained.
I cancelled my PD subscription three weeks ago, and have not missed it at all. Their SB5 editorial was the last straw that compelled me to cancel, but I had long been dissatisfied with the sub-par writing. Most of all, I no longer wanted to contribute to the salaries of hacks such as Regina Brett, John Soeder, and, worst of all, the troglodytic Kevin O’Brien.
Why on earth would I pay to read a newspaper that leans so far left that all the content pushes out liberal propoganda. What they print is simply one-sided leftist opinion.
Uh, Pixie? Their endorsement of Issue 2, was that what passes for leftist opinion? They endorsed GWB in 2000, and Kasich in ’10. More leftist opinion?
Every dog has its day. Print media is getting taken out back to be put to sleep.
Much of the reason is that newspapers are not allowed to use telemarketers to sell subscriptions. There are a lot of “recently relocated people” who do not mind getting called to start a subscription.
To their credit, newspapers actually have reporters who develop stories and expose wrong doers. Not much of that on TV
Cancel the nazi rag.
Send them to hell with 5.
If anyone wants to read a totally conservative newspaper, read the Columbus Dispatch. The Wolfe Brothers control it and most news papers in the area. Our governor is one of their darlings and he pretty much reflects their attitudes. News media is so political now days that it is all viewed as one party or the other. The PD has been more liberal in the past, but with the republican sweep in 2010 and the ‘horseplay’ of the Jimmy and Frank insanity, they seemed to follow the trend of the country and started to lean right. They are now confused as many papers are as to what the needs are to improve circulation. There are many things which printed media can and will do to get their numbers back up. I do not believe that printed media is dead, nor will it be, but it will push many out of business as a result of money. Because of the concentrated wealth of the right wing it will be those newspapers who could be the last standing. They do not need to make a profit to continue to control the media as they are backed by the entire republican party..the 1% especially. Freedom of speech is in jeoprady, but the OWS message may help to save it. They are trying to remain not political, yet it is the far right and the insane concentration of wealth which it uses for gaining more and more and more until we are all either working for them or in total poverty, which the OWS is mostly fighting.
Pixie you’re the common dumb republican. I’m sick of people like you!
it’t not gonna get any better either…That 60’s newspaper mentality isn’t gonna generate ANY revenue…..
Even two years later, it doesn’t seem like anything is better or improved.
