Davone Bess’ personal struggles have been very public lately. There was the Instagram post of him, presumably, smoking weed. There was the Browns excusing him from practice and eventually excusing him from the final two regular season games back in December. There was his continually bizarre Instagram feed after leaving the team. There was the arrest in Florida yesterday, which had its own set of bizarre circumstances. And then there’s the report from the Miami Herald that Bess was restrained and hospitalized 10 months ago against his will.

We received an account from an anonymous source citing similar behavior from Bess back in December — back almost to the exact day that he was excused from Browns practice. By all accounts, and this one in particular, Davone Bess needs some help.

I took the stairs this morning down to my car to get something, and on my way up, I saw this African American guy without his shirt standing on the first floor. A shirt, coat and some magazines were on the steps going upstairs and I asked him if those were his. He turned to me with an angry look and just stared at me. I decided to keep moving and went upstairs to my office.

I found out that my partner had tried to go down the stairs and this guy was blocking his way. He asked him what he was doing, got no response, and when he saw the guy had a belt in his hand he started back up. He then heard the guy give a blood curdling scream.

We called 911, but by the time the police came, he was gone. We found out later that a woman had taken him out of the building and driven away. We then found out that it was Davone Bess visiting his psychologist in the building.

Keep this in mind as we discuss Bess’ situation going forward, please.

  1. Back up the rubber truck and ship him out…anywhere. With all the other problems the Clowns have, do they really need this shit? Why does Cleveland sports seem to attract all the flakes and nut jobs like flies on dog crap?

They act like ghetto thugs, they have substance abuse problems, they have head problems and attitude adjustment issues, they get hurt riding their hogs and can’t perform the jobs they are getting the big bucks for, they get into brawls at clubs…on and on and on…for YEARS.

Don’t the Cavs and Browns vet these guys before they sign them? WE end up with all the screwed-up useless jamokes who can’t get the job done and who act like zoo animals instead of responsible, hard-working, PROFESSIONAL athletes.

Codes of conduct mean nothing to them. Ship them out and take their huge paychecks away and let’s see how many people at Mickey Ds will put up with their shenanigans. Enough already!

Get rid of this loser the way the Cavs gave THEIR latest head case his walking papers. Cut your losses and own up to the fact that this FUBAR organization made another mistake. Again.

  2. Undoubtedly he has some mental illness issues. Agreed, he is not appropriate to be on the team at this point in time, but have some compassion for a man that has a mental health issue. It is a disease, just like diabetes or cancer.

  3. When Sam Rutigliano was head coach of the Browns, he worked with Art Modell to institute an anonymous support group – the “Inner Circle” – to assist players who had substance abuse problems. The key was to keep the player in a structured setting of the team and not turn him loose, with hopes that he can navigate his way through the personal minefield – while (hopefully) seeking help – with so much “free” time to wander aimlessly around. The program is arguably Rutigliano’s greatest achievement in the NFL.

  4. He needs assistance to get his life back in order, regardless of his chosen profession. Most of the same old same old trash talk from Cleveland “fans” get rid of the bum, he acts like a ” ghetto thug” are just so stupid. He’s a human, a man, he needs his health to come first, have some compassion.

  5. It doesn’t happen to alot of players but unreported or diagnosed Concussion’s over the year’s may have caught up with him. Hell he’s been playing organized football since he was what? 8yrs old. “Prayers for Mr. Bess & his Family”.
