Deftones singer Chino Moreno is known for screaming his head off with the heavy metal act that he’s fronted since 1988. But with ††† (Crosses), which played last night at House of Blues, he takes a different approach. During a 70-minute show, the band played most of the 15 electronica-influenced songs on the band’s self-titled debut. Only a sparse crowd showed up for the concert, but Moreno’s enthusiasm — he leaped into the audience on several occasions — translated well despite the low turnout. Downtempo tunes such as “Bitches Brew” and “Goodbye Horses” featured intricate mixes of electronic and live instrumentation and connected well with the crowd that ushered the band back on stage for a two-song encore by chanting “Chino!” over and over again.
