Slide the City, a traveling water entertainment company from Utah, is bringing its enormous, two-lane water slide to northeast Ohio this summer, with plans to hit three major cities: Cleveland, Akron, and Youngstown.

For a fee, riders can whiz through 1,000 feet of city streets on inner tubes or other flotation devices, which seems like a positively delightful way to take in our fine city.

Prices are on the steep side, clocking in at $15 for a single ride, $30 for three rides, and $50 for an unlimited pass. Depending on the package, inner tubes may also need to be rented. Don’t feel too bad, though. Slide the City has been known to donate some of its proceeds to local charities.

Dates have been set for Youngstown (June 27) and for Akron (Aug. 2), but have not yet been announced for Cleveland, nor has its setup location. Our vote? Cedar Hill.

  1. Hope they come up with a date soon, I gotta request off work for the best excuse ever

  2. They use recycled water, no water waste. I am sooo looking forward to this event. I don’t think Cedar HIll is such a great location. the hill is awesome, yes, but it is not centrally located for all. My thinking is downtown where everybody can get to it. Close to the stadium, there is a slight incline on West Third going toward the stadium or East Ninth. Cedar Hill is too far east for west siders. I am getting a VIP ticket, taking the day off as well. “Ole lady on the slide!!!!”

  3. Let’s see… Which downtown street isn’t closed for construction? I pick that one and I’m certain the mayor will too!

  4. Looks like Soooooo much fun!! Might be a bumpy ride though with all the potholes in those cities!! 😂😂

  5. Not sure Cedar Hill would work. This looks like a round trip, with water getting pumped so you’re moving with the current, with a loop turn around at each end… I’d imagine they’ll choose the Euclid Corridor most likely, between downtown and university circle. It has to be fairly flat. Looks like fun! I wonder if you can bring your own flotation device.

  6. I don’t think Cedar hill is the best spot but for all its worth, I am a westsider and don’t think I would go all the way to cedar and god only knows where to find parking but if it were downtown somewhere that would be awesome.
I sure would love to take the day off work and be willing to pay $50. For the unlimited day for myself and my granddaughter and any other family members who wanted to go, would be worth me spending the money to have fun with family on a hot summer day
    Chillaxin fun

  7. Recycling water is nice but my concern is kids pissing in water… What are they using for chemicals strong chlorine will kill grass…bromine is expensive. Can you wear water shoes? I don’t want warts from people’s feet..and ringworm..yuck..can we use our own tubes..?

  8. How come they don’t put that here in Fort Worth Tx. I pay for unlimited passes for 50.00

  9. As a healthcare professional, all I can think of is urine, feces, hepatitis, needles, vomit, open sores/wounds, ect. Thousands of bodies splashing around in recycled, reused water…… “Infection city”
I’ll stick to my pool or a sprinkler to cool off.

  10. Bummer for low income kids. Not a lot of parents on minimum wage are gonna burn two hours of work for one go.

Anyway, they should do it on Buckeye. Great incline.

  11. If they could get around all the crater potholes in Cleveland maybe then they could put it up somewhere but damn I would be afraid to hit one while riding and die!!!

  12. I would say their going to do downtown as well……. And I hope so….. I think I’m getting unlimited pass too….. Can’t wait

  13. How are the sanitizing the water? Ppl will urinate and be on their menstrual! I will go to watch but that’s it! Oh and warts and other other communicable diseases! Dont forget the party poppers.

  14. If you really want to have fun, stop by the Plamor Roller Rink on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays for adult roller skating. All those that used to skate at the Old Plamor, Blue Goose, Seven Bells, etc, are still skating at the ages of 59 and up. The younger skaters are respectful and great skaters. Its still fun, relieves stress and great for losing weight. The Plamor is located at 22466 Shore Center Drive, Euclid 44123. Grab your old skate buddy, dust off those old skates and come on by.

  15. why do some people complain about everything…relax people…..ebola has left the country!!!

  16. E. Ninth down towards the lake and the Rock Hall. Get the Cleveland Foundation to donate tix to deserving kids who cannot afford them. Invite food trucks, charge vendor fees, and include a raffle if city statutes allow. Other value-added services could be golf cart rides back up the hill, fast passes, etc. Plus we could have charity downhill races with local VIPs like Michael Simon and LeBron. Get someone to sponsor it, and it could become an annual charity event. Tons of opportunity.

  17. A giant ‘SLIP & SLIDE !!!’ SWEEEEET.

I’m SURE (ouch, hurt my eyes rolling ’em) this event will NOT (damn it, happened again) turn into a ‘SLIP & FALL I’M SUING THE CITY’ opportunity. I’m hopeful no one would be THAT litigious, and as long as we refuse participation to anyone from Detroit, we should be OK. For sure don’t let anyone from Pittsburgh get on the thing . . . they’ll get lost.

Anyhow, seriously, 1000′ doesnt stretch that far, so the best location for the starting position would be on E. 14th by the Erie Street Cemetery, and ending under the Playhouse Square Chandelier.
