NEO is just as good as this

We here at Scene are very fond of rankings and such. So, here’s one that’s sure to inspire a stay-put summer vacation instead of a far-flung one. Frommer’s, whose travel guides are to the intrepid what Zagat guides are to foodies, rates Northeastern Ohio as a top 20 U.S. summer vacation spot. Believe it or not, this puts us right up there with mystical Big Sur, CA; the Oregon Coast; Montana’s Glacier National Park; Boulder, CO; and Santa Barbara, CA.

Okay. So Madison, WI and Knoxville, TN make the list too; we don’t know why and don’t really care.

Frommer’s says that Mohican State Park is “particularly inviting” with its old-growth hemlock forests and “spectacular” Clear Fork Gorge. Scene staff experience with Mohican is limited to drunken floats down the river in a rented tube but according to Frommer’s, it’s much more romantic than that.

The islands are mentioned, and so, of course, is Cedar Point. Did you know the park now has 50 “roaring, flailing, and full-sized animatronic dinosaurs?” We didn’t either. But they might be fun to check out.

  1. Well Maude, I like you more every time yu speak. I mean it is no secret that anyone who opens their mouth, opens their life up to absolute and complete scrutinty, but folks like us care little of such things and place our selves up for disection and other forms of observation.

  2. Here’s a secret…if you don’t magnify the page, that image of Santa Barbara almost looks like our very own Edgewater…

I lived in Santa Barbara years ago, although very briefly. I went there to work for a relative, only to find out that his business was in the toilet, as was his personal life, and I came back East in a hurry, before finally settling in Florida for a few years.

Don’t let anybody, especially anybody who writes these silly travel guides, kid you…SB is a nice town if you’re very rich, very Republican, no longer young, and very white. They don’t really want tourists spoiling their good life…it might scare the horses. SB and its pretentious, self-absorbed bullshit is not for the likes of the average Clevelander. Bob Hope lived there. Reagan retired there. Nuff said.
