Some familiar names made it onto the list of nominees for inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in 2016. Acts such as Chic, Deep Purple, Nine Inch Nails [pictured], N.W.A., the Smiths, the Spinners and Yes have been nominated in the past while the Cars, Chaka Khan, Chicago, Cheap Trick, The J.B.’s, Janet Jackson, Los Lobos and Steve Miller have been nominated for the first time.

To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination; that means these nominees had to release their first recording no later than 1990. A hand-picked committee decided upon the nominees. Now, ballots will be sent to an international voting body of more than 800 artists, historians and members of the music industry. Beginning today and continuing through December 9, fans can visit rockhall.com to cast votes for the act they think should be inducted. Their votes will be counted along with the other ballots to choose the 2016 inductees. The Inductions will be held in New York in April of next year. Venue and ticket on-sale information will be announced at a later date.

  1. It is like attempting to pull the names of Gary Collins (original Browns) and Mel Harder (Indians) out of obscurity for consideration by some committee in – respectively – Canton and Cooperstown……but without Graham Bond (“The Sound of ’65”) and Alexis Korner (“R&B from the Marquee”) mixing elements of the blues, jazz and R&B in venues like Klooks Kleek and the Marquee Club — what became the classic rock sound from groups like the Rolling Stones, Cream, the New Yardbirds/Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple may have veered onto another path. There has to be space inside the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum for the pair who set the entire scene in motion. Truck on out and spread the news, indeed!
