“I had a batch of songs I wrote from 2019 to 2022 that I wanted to bring to life on stage,” says Flowers in a press release. “In August 2022, we played our first show as a four-piece at the Grog Shop and haven’t stopped since. After a few rotating lineups, countless local shows, and some Craigslist dives, Two Mile Moon is now me on vocals and guitar, Cole Guendelsberger on lead guitar, Torin Bradish on bass, Ali Kovacevich on keys/vocals, and Sergey Dumphrey on drums.”
Influenced by ’90s rock, Flowers channels his love for music from that time into the songs.
“When I first got deep into music at 13, I was obsessed with the ’90s,” he says. “That love faded for a while but came rushing back in late 2023 when I started writing this album. ‘Ego Death Metal’ was the first song I wrote, and I thought, ‘Yeah… that sounds like an album title too.’ My ego’s still intact. I just liked the way it sounded. Using ’90s-inspired tones and production, I decided to weave in some lore: the story of Billy Flowers, a singer-songwriter who cryogenically froze himself in 1998 to escape label control, only to thaw out in 2025 to finally release Ego Death Metal.”
The band plays a release party for the album on Saturday, Aug. 30, at Brothers Lounge.
