Bill NYE 2018 at 16-Bit Bar + Arcade
15102 Detroit Ave., Lakewood
There’s no cover at this Lakewood arcade and bar for this Bill Nye-themed party (Get it? NYE for New Year’s Eve and ‘Nye’’the Science Guy’s last name). In addition to their arcade games, they’ll be screening the TV series “Bill Nye the Science Guy” throughout the night, have Bill Nye-inspired cocktails, and be giving out Bill Nye T-shirts every minute from 11 p.m. until midnight.

Cloud Nothings have toured around the country, playing esteemed festivals like Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, but they always make it back home where they started and there show at Beachland Ballroom to ring in the New Year will surely be a special treat. Opening for them will be Half an Animal and Christmas Pets. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, if it’s not sold out. There’ll also be complimentary champagne handed out at midnight.

There’s no cover charge at this Lakewood haunt, but just because there’s no cover doesn’t mean there’ll be no New Year’s celebration. There’ll be four different bars open, two DJs spinning, free party favors and a midnight balloon drop to celebrate turning the clock from 2017 to 2018.

The always classy, underground speakeasy Society Lounge on East Fourth Street hosts a party that starts at $30 to get in the door, which will also include a glass of complimentary champagne. Local Jazz musician Phil Turk performs throughout the evening.

DJ Mazi Jahi will be spinning New York, ’70s-era disco throughout the night at this Gordon Square bar and restaurant. The tunes and the atmosphere will transform this place into Studio 54 for the night, where they’ll hand out party favors and a midnight toast. There’s no cover and there’ll be a special New Year’s Eve menu for the night.

There’ll be music for everyone – bands playing on the bar side and DJs spinning on the concert venue side. The bands for the night are Ma Holos, The Sight, Brainwashed California, Roobydocks and Cotton Ponys.

Tricky Dick and the Cover Ups will be rockin’ out in Willoughby and there’s no cover charge. While Tricky Dick is playing inside, there’ll be a covered patio with DJ Scottie spinning throughout the night. Live on the West Side and want to head out to Willoughby, but you don’t want to drive? For 20 bucks round trip, there’ll be a bus going from Lakewood to Willoughby.

If you’re looking to embrace your dark side on New Year’s Eve, The Agora is the place to do it. Heavy metal band Twiztid is the headliner and there will be 13 acts total throughout the night, all for only $26. The other bands playing are G-Mo Skee, Boondox, Lex the Hex Master, The R.O.C., Insane E, Alla Xul Elu, Redd, Beezy, Likewize, Toy Box, Down 2 Grind and The Grimey Ones.

For just a $10 cover, Punch Bowl Social in the Flats is having an all neon New Years’ Eve party, where partygoers are encouraged to dress in their brightest colors and the bar will have black lights to accentuate the theme. There’ll also be a DJ, a NYE punch and a midnight balloon drop to ring in the New Year.

Mahall’s consistently throws one of the best New Year’s Eve parties in town and this year will be no different. Their party, put on by Memorabilia Productions, changes themes each year. To ring in 2018, the theme will be 1980s Los Angeles beach and kitsch, based on the film ‘Earth Girls are Easy’, the 1984 Olympic Village Disco, and the B-52s. DJs Himiko Gogo & Lectric BB, along with MC Tay Su, will have you dancing the night away – all for $13 pre-sale and $15 the day of.

Celebrate being young, successful and lit, otherwise known as YSL at the Thistledown Racino. The night kicks off with a meet-and-greet and then moves into the sixth floor ballroom where DJ Walk and Shonny Mac will perform tunes throughout the evening. The ball drop will be shown on the Racino’s big screen, which usually shows the ponies racing. Cost of admission is $15, which includes a toast and appetizers.

Rock out to some sped-up Irish tunes with local punk Irish band The Kilroys. They’ll be playing at Stone Mad Pub in the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood. While there’ll be a traditional celebration at midnight, there’ll also be a countdown to 7 p.m., which is midnight in Ireland.

There’s no cover at Moxie in Beachwood, where they’ll be celebrating the end of the year with Darrell Stout, aka Stouty, in charge of entertainment for the night.
