Runners keep in step with curbside tunes.

Today’s OutRun Ovarian Cancer event includes a 1-mile family run and a 5K race and walk. It also features live entertainment along the entire route -- presumably to keep runners’ minds off the copious amount of sweat they’re spilling. The fourth-annual outing -- which has a rock and roll theme -- kicks off at the Rock Hall.

NewsChannel 5’s Lee Jordan hosts a pre-run rally, which includes a performance by local singer-songwriter Kate Voegele. There’s also a kids’ tent featuring crafts and other hands-on activities. Plus, all runners receive a commemorative T-shirt and goody bag. This year’s route winds downtown and passes many area landmarks -- where bands, dancers, and others will pump up participants with their music and moves. It’s all about raising consciousness, says founder Gretchen Nock. “Be aware of symptoms, and receive appropriate medical care,” she says. “Have a voice in the doctor’s office.”
