After Hurricane Katrina leveled New Orleans in 2005, Chris Olivier followed thousands of fellow natives on a northward pilgrimage. After hours of driving, the saxophonist stopped in South Bend, Indiana, where he had an epiphany: The town looked like it craved a dose of some Big Easy jazz, with a dash of reggae and funk thrown into the mix. So Half-Pint Jones was born. Today, the five-piece combo is traveling throughout the Midwest for the debut of its CD, Trilogy of Patches and Olaf. Along with Olivier, the quintet includes ex-Whistle Pigs trumpeter Mark Gamble, longtime drummer Steve "Krojo" Krojniewski, Chicago-born guitarist Justin Ross, and ex-Michigander Jayson Sites. The band takes the stage at 9 tonight at Wilbert's Music & Food, 812 Huron Avenue East. Tickets are $6. Call 216-902-4663 or visit
