Democratic socialist Tanmay Shah’s Cleveland City Council win has proved there’s energy on the local level too, organizers say, pointing to growing membership ranks.
The Democratic Socialist candidate edged Kelly by nine votes after final mail-in ballots and provisionals were counted. A recount, which officials doubt will change the result, will come next.
“Republicans have controlled state government for nearly two decades, and all we have to show for it is rising costs and falling quality of life,” Clyde said.
LaRose notes only 167 examples of noncitizens allegedly casting a ballot spread over the last eight years of four federal elections. Critics say he’s “forum shopping” after local prosecutors declined to bring charges.
Leaders say the map, which creates 12 Republican-leaning districts over the 10 current ones, was a compromise between the Democrats and Republicans on the commission.
“It seems like the EdChoice voucher program is expanding and skyrocketing with the money that’s being poured into that program, and there aren’t nearly as many students in that program to warrant that kind of infusion of money.”
Several large players contend the new restrictions in Ohio don’t apply to them, while the statehouse is considering two more proposals dealing with social media.
