11 Field Trips Every Clevelander Should Re-Take As Adults

Locals may remember taking a day off of school way back when to head to the Flats and touch some starfish. Nowadays, the Greater Cleveland Aquarium features some beautiful landscapes you won't see anywhere else in Cleveland. For adults, the aquarium also offers pricey but cool scuba diving sessions so that those 18 and over can swim with sharks. 2210 East State, West Liberty

Though it's a bit of a hike, the Ohio Caverns trump every other cave site in the area. Boasting the world's largest and "most perfect" stalactite (their words, not ours) and vast, colorful limestone mazes, the caverns are an obvious day-trip choice for adventurous Clevelanders. A half hour drive from Cleveland, summer camp destination Kendall Cliffs may look different than grown-up locals expect. While smaller climbing walls are still up for grabs for kids, the rock-climbing warehouse is much more equipped for adventurous locals. In 1992, you may have been brought here to learn about metamorphic rocks. This season, the Gorge Metro Park offers way more than a dry geology lesson. The gorge offers some of the area's best fall landscapes with waterfalls, trickling streams and golden leaves. Some time in the 1960s, some guy decided to combine his three favorite past times: basketball, bumper cars and lacrosse. He called it "whirlyball." Today, Cleveland gets to boast one of the half dozen whirlyball courts in the States. At Whirlyball Cleveland, guests can get a drink or four at the in-house bar before renting the court for hour-long sessions. When crashing into your half-drunk friends gets old, the site also offers laser tag and arcade games, all available for private sessions. Even though Smucker's factories and headquarters are located in Northeast Ohio, these guys refuse to give factory tours. Instead, jelly fanatics can mission trip their way to the Smucker's Store and Cafe. While the spot is usually visited by field trippers and foodies, the store is a destination for anyone interested in shopping local or learning some fun facts about one of the largest corporations to come out of the Buckeye State. The store shows off not just the Smucker's family of products but also every product they own, including Pillsbury and Dunkin Donuts. Regardless of age, everyone loves free chocolate. North Canton's high-end chocolate factory Harry London offers free tours to those young and old. However, just like Willy Wonka, the folks at Harry London are pretty exclusive. Call ahead to get on the list for a free private tour. And don't bring your cameras. The factory won't allow pictures being taken and photos of the inside are scarce online. Regardless, it's a free date idea sure to win some points with the S.O. Kids aren't the only ones who have learning to do. Though it's a popular field trip destination for grade schoolers, the Great Lakes Science Center has just as much to offer adults.
