Szechuan Cafe may be one of Asia Town’s lesser known joints, but that doesn’t stop them from churning out a plethora of delicious soups. They have close to 15 iterations of Szechuan style noodle soup in addition to a bunch of other large pots of sup like their mixed vegetable pork soup and their bean noodle tofu lamb soup.

Superior Pho

3030 Superior Ave., Cleveland

The Asia Town mainstay — an absolute favorite for quick lunches, group meals, and dates — also dishes up a great banh mi, bubble tea, and other Vietnamese appetizers and entrees. Try them, but do yourself a favor and get the pho first.

Zen Cuisine

The Arcade, 401 Euclid Ave., Cleveland

Located in the Arcade on Euclid, this may be a fast food restaurant, but the quality is much better than that. The menu boasts simple but tasty noodle soups that you can get with beef, shrimp, chicken or veggies.

High Thai’d

We’re big fans of High Thai’d in the historic Coventry district of the Heights. Yes, they’re known for their delicious Thai food, which makes sense given the name./ But that doesn’t mean they can’t make a mean pho with your choice of chicken or veggies. And for something a little more adventurous, try the duck noodle soup - it’s scrumptious.

Bowl Of Pho

It’s a bit more difficult to find pho in the suburbs. But Bowl of Pho, in the conveniently located shopping district of Woodmere, is dab smack in the middle of the eastern suburbs, making it a destination for any pho lovers that want to stick closer to the burbs.

Nam Wah

392 West Bagley Rd., Berea

Out in Berea, Nam Wah’s menu boasts a mashup of Chinese and Vietnamese offerings. That includes seven different offerings of pho that are very tasty. They also have bun bo hue, or spicy beef noodle soup, so you really can’t go wrong here if you’re looking for a broth-based dish.

Pho Lee

3710 Payne Ave. #10, Cleveland

There can never be too many pho spots. It's always pho season, but colder weather screams for bun bo hue, a meatier, spicier and, we’d argue, more winter-appropriate brew. The version served here starts with deeply flavorful beef stock and is kicked up in all sorts of ways, evident by the burnt amber hue and pools of red chili oil that slick the surface. Unlike with pho, there's only one version, a hat-size bowl with thin-sliced beef, pork roll, tendon, an unwieldy knuckle of some sort and thick, round noodles. It's paired with an exceptionally fresh garnish plate overflowing with snow-white bean sprouts, shredded cabbage, fried banana blossoms, fresh mint and limes.

Gordon Square’s Ninja City definitely has one of the best varieties when it comes to Asian soups. They have Korean style red curry noodle soup, they have pho, they have veggie broth ramen and they have pork broth ramen. And whatever you get, you have a ton of choices of what to put in the soups. Yum.

Wonton Gourmet & BBQ

Wonton dishes out some 20 varieties of Hong Kong-style soups, overflowing with plump shrimp and pork dumplings, garden-fresh greens and thin noodles. They also serve a wide selection of congee, or rice porridge.

Playhouse Square’s Sung’s House is perfect for when you have a group of friends that all wants Asian food but just can’t decide what kind exactly. They have bibimbop and bulgogi, they have teriyaki, they have sushi, they have a ton of vegetarian options. And then they also have ramen served Korean style with vegetables and egg.
