Cinco de Mayo has taken on a new meaning in the US, (mostly) celebrating Mexican culture state-side. Local venues are set to celebrate with margaritas, Mexican fare and live music.

Rooftop Party

To celebrate Cinco de Mayo, Punch Bowl Social will throw its first rooftop patio party of the season from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 5. The event will feature a special $5 El Macho tequila-based cocktail (made with muddled cucumber, house-made cardamom syrup and fresh lime juice). (Niesel)

Derby de Mayo

Wild Eagle Saloon's downtown spot is offering drink specials from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. They're also offering prizes to the best dressed in "derby attire." Sure, they're recommending you get your "cinco de drinko" on, but at least there will be some cool hats on display. Find out more here.

Cinco de Mayo Paw-ty

Three Dog Bakery is selling margarita and taco themed dog treats, and has fun backdrops to create cute photo ops for you and your canine pals. They also hired a portrait artist to draw your pet; reservations must be made in advance. Plus, there are treats for humans. Find out more here.

Cinco de Meow

Around the Corner Saloon and Cafe is hosting their fourth annual team-up with local cat rescue organizations to showcase adoptable felines and provide their take on Cinco de Mayo themed food. All funds benefit local adoption organizations. The event, on Saturday, can be found here.

Country Rockin' Tex Mex

Music Box Supper Club is hosting Country rock band Gringo Stew to deliver a southwestern twist on their Cinco de Mayo celebrations. They'll be serving up classics on their brunch buffet on Sunday, but they'll also have additions like tacos and churros. Get reservations here.

Taco Eating Contest

Barrio's Tremont location is hosting their annual taco eating contest on Sunday. The first 15 people to sign-up get the honor of fighting to the death for 10 minutes, starting with 10 tacos. Friends and family are encouraged to cheer along. Barrio will provide water for contestants. Sign up here.

Cabo de Mayo

Bar Louie and Sammy Hagar are celebrating "cabo-style" all weekend. They are serving drink specials, including a special mezcal and discounted Mexican beer, and tacos (including one with a Philly-steak twist). Find out more here.

Patio Opening and Cinco de Mayo Party

Nuevo Cleveland is opening up their patio for the summer, and they'll be celebrating this weekend with their usual Mexican fare and drinks. They are also hosting live music and salsa dancing, in addition to discounts. Find out more here.

5k Walk/Run

Mantua is a little outside Cleveland, but Advanced Rehabilitation and Health Services is hosting a 5k to benefit their organization. Runners and walkers are encouraged to join, and the race concludes with a trip to Jake's Restaurant to celebrate with tacos (one taco is included in registration fees).
