Downtown Cleveland is about to become a whole lot sweeter next month, as Campbell's Sweets Factory
is set to open at 424 Superior Ave. on November 15.
The new shop is an addition to owners Jeff and Lynn Campbell's current storefronts in Ohio City, Lakewood and the West Side Market.
Margoe Koenigsmark, currently a manager at the Ohio City location, will take over managerial duties at the new space. She says part of the reason the company wanted to move downtown was for the convenience of folks who work in the city.
"This is easy for people," Koenigsmark says. "People don't want to drive five minutes away [to Ohio City], everyone wants things quick and fast now and this should help with that."
The shop, which will retain that quaint old-time candy shop vibe of the other locations, will focus more on retail, Koenigsmark says. While they'll make their own truffles, buckeyes and cookies (along with offering roasting nuts, the only location to do so), the downtown shop will rely on the other locations for popcorn and cupcakes, which are then decorated in-house.
The new digs, nearby the Hyatt Regency Cleveland, took more than a year to find, but Koenigsmark says it was the worth the wait to find the perfect location. Currently the plan is to open from 10 a.m. to 6 pm. on weekdays, and then 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
The company hopes to expand even more in the future.
"This is the first location that will be a little different," Koenigsmark says. "It will be the tester to see how it goes, but so far the feedback has been overwhelming and we haven't opened yet."
