Update: Following yesterday's announcement that Scotti's Italian Eatery would close in the middle of the month, owner Scott Nathanson took to Facebook today to say that thanks to an outpouring of support, the 20-year-old spot may not have to shutter after all.

We'll keep you updated on the eatery's status in two weeks.

(Original post: 7/31/2019) After 20 years in business, owner Scott Nathanson just announced that his restaurant Scotti's Italian Eatery in the Collinwood neighborhood is closing up shop in mid-August.

"It is with great sadness that I have to announce that Scotti’s will have to close its doors permanently," Nathanson wrote on Facebook today. "I am so sorry for the inconvenience this may cause some of you but I really have no choice."

Opening in 1999 on E. 185 St., the spot is not only known for slinging high-quality pizzas and calzones, along with other Italian fare, but also for its cool oasis of an outdoor patio.

In the post, Nathanson said that business has recently been hindered thanks to nearby construction, which apparently cut their business by half and caused some employees to quit.

"It was a great 20 year run and I appreciate all of you for your patronage and your friendship," Nathanson said in the post. "Not sure what is in the future for me or the business. Thank you again for your help and understanding."

The restaurant's final day in business is Aug. 16.
