One of the best parts about Cleveland is the wide range of cuisines you can find here. If you head over to Yelp, the highest rated restaurants in town right now certainly reflect that variety. This very diverse list includes Nepalese, Yemeni, Lebanese, Cuban, Pan-African, Singaporean street food, poke, empanadas, barbecue, Italian, American/European style bistros, breakfast spots and sushi. How many have you tried?
Cafe Everest
14304 Puritas Ave., Cleveland
“Incredible Nepali food. I have been here twice and both times was utterly impressed. We ordered every type of vegetable momo – plain, chili, and jhol. All were delicious. We had also ordered paneer tikka masala and poori which I would highly recommend. My dad tried one of their fresh smoothies which they customized for him. The servers were attentive and caring. Highly recommend this place, and would definitely come back!” Supi S. on Yelp Credit: Scene ArchivesCity Pop Sushi
1816 East 12th St., Cleveland
This visually appealing eatery downtown is a candy-colored homage to Japanese pop culture. Original artwork is joined by an arcade game, TVs streaming city pop music videos, and a short roster of contemporary sushi rolls. Rolls, both grab-and-go and made-to-order, feature fully cooked items like bacon, steak and shrimp. They are served with dipping sauces like wasabi mayo and yum-yum. 1900 Euclid Ave., Cleveland
“We went here for lunch and ordered a falafel bowl and a tajine beef bowl. The service was great. Everyone was friendly. The food tasted great and looked great. Restaurant is nice and clean. Plenty of options to choose from. Price is good for the amount of food that you get. Drinks are reasonably priced. I will definitely be returning to get food. The best part is the proximity to the campus. I have no complaints.” Ike V. on Yelp Credit:Cassa Kitchen/FacebookDang Good Foods
13735 Madison Ave., Lakewood
Daniel Ang progressed from a food truck of the same name to a brick-and-mortar restaurant in Lakewood only slightly roomier. There, he lovingly prepares a small roster of dishes culled from his childhood in Singapore, where he devoured foods rooted in Chinese, Indian and Malay traditions. When you visit, do try the curry noodle soup and braised pork belly rice, but if you want to experience Spam in its highest form, tack on an order of the musubi. Slices of the sweet-salty canned ham are sauteed, painted with teriyaki, sandwiched between steamed rice and bundled up in a tidy seaweed wrapper. Credit: Scene ArchivesBistro on the Falls
8134 Columbia Rd., Olmsted Falls
“Phenomenal food! Loved the Korean style pork belly, especially the tangy slaw and sauce with the pork belly. Cauliflower risotto balls with that sweet and sour tomato sauce – completely not what I expected, and so much better. Deviled eggs with crabmeat – also a winner, and generous roasted garlic mashed potatoes – yum! Such a nice surprise. Took dinner as takeout, but inside looked very inviting as well. Food came out fast and warm, and oh so good. Highly recommend,” Killu S. on Yelp Credit:Bistro on the Falls/FacebookOpal on Pearl
4250 Pearl Rd., Cleveland
There are few more iconic properties in Old Brooklyn than the sturdy brick fortress at 4250 Pearl Road. That weighty mantle now belongs to Tony Mellon and his eight-month-old creation Opal on Pearl. What we found during our visits was a cozy neighborhood wine bar with more than enough food to keep guests from leaving when the inevitable hunger pangs strike. Since opening last summer, Opal has matured from a cheese-and-crackers kind of place to a full-fledged restaurant that attracts neighbors if not cross-towners for both drinks and dinner.

”As momma would say: This shita good! Awesome pizza! Awesome Italian sub! So much meat! And wonderful flavor. We also had the pasta salad which was excellent! Sat outside on the large patio and it was a beautiful day,” John S. on Yelp Credit: Scene ArchivesBylo Gyro Bob’s
14007 Puritas Ave., Cleveland
“Best gyro I’ve had, period. I come from New York and that means a lot. The meat is perfect, and the sauce is a killer. I love that it’s basically family owned and a pretty small business charging fair prices for what you’re getting.” Re G. on Yelp Credit: Scene ArchivesExpress Deli
5185 Smith Rd., Cleveland
“One of the best customer experiences I’ve ever had. And when I say experience, I’m not joking. They make you feel so welcome here, and obviously take so much pride in everything they do. I love the first time customer sample platter. What an awesome touch. The corned beef Mac and cheese and Reuben wrap were to die for. I’d come out if my way to eat here, even though it’s just a little convenience store deli,” Adam R. on Yelp Credit: Douglas TrattnerHot Grillz Diner
7188 Northfield Rd., Walton Hills
“Drove past this for a few years until finally I got a chance to go. Have to say this is definitely a gold mine. Very good food also it’s a family owned place which makes it even better to want to support places like this. Would recommend 100%,” Shane M. on Yelp Credit: Scene ArchivesMain Gate Restaurant
3900 Orange Ave., Cleveland
“Cleveland’s hidden breakfast gem right here. Located in the basement of the old Cleveland produce terminal, Main Gate takes you way back to the days where the terminal was packed, except in the last 50 years, the prices of the food here have not changed. It’s so cheap! This greasy spoon is one for the record books. I’m hesitant to write this as I’m afraid it will continue to get more popular and lose a bit of its appeal, but it’s just great. 5 star here, bacon was delivered just the way I like it!.” Daniel H. on Yelp Credit: Scene ArchivesBoney Fingers BBQ
1800 Euclid Ave., Cleveland
”Delicious BBQ! We tried the pulled pork and brisket sandwiches for lunch and they were so tasty! My fiancé has been hyping up his favorite BBQ spot for over a year and I was finally able to try and it did not disappoint! The brisket was our favorite and it was juicy and tender. Their two types of sauce were great additions to the sandwich and the cornbread was awesome as well! Reasonably priced, good food! Definitely worth a visit!!” Courtney S. on Yelp Credit:Scene ArchivesMarie’s

”Really a great place to dine. Forget the glitz and lights. A building my grandfather most likely ate in many years ago. It’s a city staple run by a family that has a passion for this city,” John M. on Yelp Credit: Scene ArchivesJohn and Loreta Family Restaurant

“Came across Umami while looking for a nice healthy option in the area. Saw the good reviews and decided to give it a try— which was well worth it! The restaurant itself is very clean and put together, nestled in a smart-looking building just off Lorain. The poke bowls and the teriyaki bowls we got were both sensational. All the toppings were very fresh and delicious and they were served nice and quick! Beyond that the employees were very kind and accommodating. Felt very well taken care of here. We’ll be back for sure, highly recommend this place.” Benjamin L. on Yelp Credit:Umami Rice Bowls/FacebookHalf Moon Bakery
3460 West 25th St., Cleveland
“I’ve never tried an empanada before until I came to half moon, and I will only ever eat them from Half Moon for here on out! As a vegetarian, I wasn’t sure what my options I’d be getting but there were two wildly different ones on the menu that were absolutely AMAZING. You enter Half Moon, you are greeted so kindly, you order, and like 5 bakers pop out of nowhere and start absolutely slinging empanadas at lightning speed. Never seen a phenomenon like it, it was amazing. I waited maybe 10 minutes max for them to be completely made, and they are made from scratch! There are also baked goods, salad options, and coffee options as well. Half moon will now become a staple in my quick but local diet, and for that I’m thankful,” Hope S. on Yelp. “Great find for brunch. The chicken and waffles and French toast looked amazing at the next table. I had the gumbo and it was fabulous, highly recommended. The hot sauce supplied was also tasty for a little added kick. Nice quiet atmosphere and decor too!.” Mary P. on Yelp Credit: Scene ArchivesKafela

“I have possibly spent the last two months at Kafela! It feels like HOME. When I moved to Cleveland I was looking for a great atmosphere I can eat and get work done. The owner Kayla makes you feel like part of the family it truly is a place where everyone knows your name. I have even had the pleasure to work with them on two projects. This place has great coffee, breakfast, and dinner. It really is your one stop shop !! Do yourself a favor and go and you may catch me there :)” Natacha S. on Yelp Credit:Kafela/FacebookZaytoon

”This was a fun bar to visit. It used to be decorated mainly in the Simpson theme but new ownership redecorated. There are still hints of Moe though. The writer would sit at the bar and lived above it. The bartender was Tom, he was awesome, took great care of us. They had a Rum infused with peach and ginger that was amazing! Food was delicious. Definitely would go back if ever in town!!” Susan H. on Yelp Credit: Scene ArchivesThe Palazzo

I can’t get over what a wonderful place this is! If you are a fan of classic Italian food, this is absolutely a place to check out…The food is wonderful…The pastas are rich and flavorful, the calamari sauteed to perfection, the herbs are just picked fresh, everything is expertly crafted by someone who clearly knows what they are doing. The menu covers all the bases with pastas, pizzas, fresh fish, desserts, steaks, you name it. I will definitely be back for more! Jared W. on Yelp

My boyfriend and I decided to grab breakfast here since we were both craving an el típico and, wow, are we glad that we that we did! We both got a Chorizo Honduran Breakfast and a Cuban Colado. It was a ton of food and ended up being two meals for me (admittedly only one for the boyfriend). Everything was amazingly delicious, but the handmade tortillas and beans were the best. “TJ’s Is one of the best kept LOCALLY OWNED sandwich shops just west of Cleveland. Located on Detroit rd just before you enter Downtown Lakewood, TJ’s sits on the south side of the street. TJ’s values their time-tested motto of only supplying the best meats, and freshest cuts to Lakewoodites. The hometown eatery brings some of the best sandwiches at a low-cost which is why I come here often. I usually end up buying dinner too!!!” Seth S. on Yelp Credit: Scene ArchivesYemen Gate

“If you want to find delicious Yemení cuisine, this is the best place to visit! Hands-down the best tasting food and the best service. The naan and hummus was yummy. The Chicken Mandi and Lamb Haneeth were delicious. The portions were HUGE! So, if you plan on going there and trying to put down your own plate. Go very hungry or be ready to take your leftovers home. The limeade and mint and mango juice were incredible. And the dessert with dates and figs is amazing! I highly recommend this place and will go back soon!” Josh V. on Yelp Credit: Doug Trattner
