Starbucks is slimming down its North American portfolio as 2025 comes to a close, including shuttering the Playhouse Square location on Euclid Ave. The spot’s last day of operation was last Saturday and is one of hundreds on the chopping block, according to the company.

Workers were only informed of the news a few days prior on Thursday and awaited notification on whether they would be transferred or laid off.

“We’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to close this Starbucks location by the end of this week,” a note on the door of the Playhouse Square location now reads. “We know this may be hard to hear- because this isn’t just any store. It’s your coffeehouse, a place woven into your daily rhythm, where memories were made, and where meaningful connections with our partners grew over the years. We’re deeply grateful for the community that’s been built here.”

A full list of store closures hasn’t yet been shared by the coffee chain.
