Puma, based in New York, works in music promotion and artist management. Canton’s Lockshin owned Fame Beverage Co. in Massillon, a company he sold just over 10 years ago.
All that talk has finally turned into action, and they’ve just announced the details of their Canton Hops and Harvest Festival.
It takes place on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.
Attendees will have the opportunity to sample more than a 100 beers from every region of Ohio as well as national and international brews. Food trucks and local restaurants will be on hand as well.
“When I started at Fame Beverage Co. there were only four kinds of beer in the area,” Lockshin says in a press release announcing the event. “Seeing the expansion of the microbreweries and the emphasis on experimental and small-batch beer here in Canton — and across the county — I had to find a way to celebrate it and the brewmasters putting in the hours.”
A portion of the proceeds to benefit local nonprofit organizations including Wishes Can Happen, the Stark County Hunger Task Force and the Stark County Humane Society.
Some of the 50 participating breweries include the Canton Brewing Company, Sierra Nevada, Rhinegeist Brewery, Platform Beer Company and Hoppin’ Frog Brewery.
“This should be a culinary adventure of epic proportions,” Hoppin’ Frog owner and brewmaster Fred Karm says. “Pairing great local food with great local beer is a natural and is at its best around harvest time.”
Tickets range in price from $15 to $60 and are available online. The event has two sessions — a 1 to 4 p.m. afternoon session and a 6 to 9 p.m. evening one. A VIP ticket allows early entry.
