We have fond memories of standing in a line that stretched down Waterloo Rd. in North Collinwood with other local music junkies on Record Store Day to buy limited edition vinyl releases that Music Saves would stock.

Alas, Music Saves will close its brick and mortar business this weekend and will focus solely on online sales.

It’s a significant loss; store owner Melanie Hersh opened the store, which is located next to the Beachland Ballroom, in 2004 and regularly stocked local and national releases. It also hosted in-store appearances from indie acts like Frightened Rabbit and Jeremy Jay.

The store will be open today from 2 to 8 p.m. and tomorrow from noon to 8 p.m. before closing for good.

Jeff has been covering the Cleveland music scene for more than 25 years now. On a regular basis, he tries to talk to whatever big acts are coming through town. And if you're in a local band that he needs to hear, email him at jniesel@clevescene.com.

  1. Just the best record store. This is really sad. Cool people. Support the rest of Cleveland’s independent music stores to make sure they stay in business. Pay for your music! Support the artists!!

  2. Man, this news comes as a total shock to me 🙁 As a resident of North Collinwood, a musician/music lover and a supporter of Music Saves and The Waterloo Arts District in general, I am beyond sad to lose such a special store.

  3. Was just there buying gifts, and some actually for others. Sad and weird. Loved this store.

  4. I’m so sorry to see my favorite music store closing, but I will still be supporting Music Saves in their online future.
Good luck to Melanie as her company evolves!
