On Saturday, October 10, the Parma Tavern (5680 Broadview Rd.) will
host a tribute to Brian Chalmers, the Cleveland artist whose
work included some of the iconic WMMS graphics. Chalmers died suddenly
in June, at the age of 54. Long-running rock band Teaser will
host the event. Brian’s brother Mark is the band’s drummer. The music
starts at 9 p.m.
After a two-year layoff, art-damaged rock band Garmonbozia returns on Friday, October 9, at Peabody’s (2045 E. 21st St.) with a
modified lineup. Steve Rauckhorst is now fronting the group and
playing bass on the band’s debut CD. The disc has been in the works so
long, says Rauckhorst, “It’s like the Chinese Democracy of
Cleveland.” The band hopes to finish it this year while keyboardist
Harry Mapes takes a break from touring with radio rockers Theory of a
Deadman.
The live show will feature opening sets by lounge performer Harry
Bacharach, manic performance artist the Harvester and twisted heavy
rock band Lords of Absynthe. “It’s going to be different from your
average Peabody’s night,” says Rauckhorst. “It’s diverse and strange,
with some more humor — more of a lounge thing.” Doors 7 p.m.;
cover is $10.
Pigface mainman Martin Atkins is all over Cleveland
this weekend, and he’s worth your time whether or not you’re into
old-school industrial music.
On Saturday, October 10, Atkins will host a free seminar at
Peabody’s (2045 E. 21st St.), presenting professional advice for
musicians. The interactive session is based on his book, Tour
Smart. It runs from 1:30-5 p.m. It’s free. Learn more at tstouring.com.
Friday night, October 9, Atkins will host the Gravedigger’s Ball
V, a dance-goth extravaganza at the Phantasy/Chamber complex (11802
Detroit Ave., Lakewood). The show is a release party for the Pigface CD
6. Atkins will spin between live sets by Ludwyg, Missile
Command, Flowers in Flames and the Bridge Party. Doors 8:30 p.m.; cover
$3 for 21+, $5 for 18-20.
Cleveland songwriter/actress Kate Voegele will appear in two
more episodes of the CW’s new season of One Tree
Hill.
