Audio/Visual/Baptism 7 will showcase an earful of
power-noise, shining a spotlight on Cleveland’s Fellacoustic
Records at 7 p.m. Sunday at Now That’s Class (11213 Detroit Ave.).
The show will feature 11 grinding acts, including power-electronics
cult figures Quell, noise terrorists Fellahean and the
fire-spewing slMakita, a solo project by Steve Makita,
the underground-experimental veteran whose career spans from Apartment
213 to grindcore gods Agoraphobic Nosebleed.
Audio/Visual/Baptism is a monthly showcase at Now That’s Class run
by Makita, who’s also involved with Fellacoustic with Jim Fellahean.
Last month, he put on a show in Baltimore.
“I want to get [AVB] on the road to give the Cleveland scene a bit
of a kick in the ass,” says Makita. “We all make noise, and if you’re
down with that, come and hang out — get your inner ear damaged in
the process. AVB has an old Speak in Tongues feel to it.”
Fellacoustic has released CDs by Japan’s Merzbow, Canada-Cleveland
combo Windscale, Fellahean and SL Makita. Take a listen at Fellacoustic.com.
Young Jeezy stopped at Lava Room Recording to do some
recording before the Lil Wayne concert at Blossom Music Center August
6. His management company picked the studio for its technical
qualifications. Head engineer Mike Brown reports that they
worked all night. “They were the most professional hip-hop guys I’ve
ever worked with,” says Brown. “It was work, work, work.”
The Lava Room recently moved from Cleveland’s west side to the Agora
complex (5000 Euclid Ave.). The studio is hosting an open
house/media/networking party from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, followed by a
concert at 9 p.m. at the Agora Ballroom featuring Jackie, Gypsy Relic
and 70 Lewis. The open house and concert are free and open to the
public.
Longtime Cleveland music journalist Peanuts is one of the
casualties from the Sun newspapers’ contraction. After 18 years with
the company, his August column will be his last.
