Most of the Lovekill will reunite for three shows as I Am
Champagne. Drummer Craig Ramsey, singer-bassist Carla
Cherry and guitarist Jonah Bayer will play new material as
well as songs from the 2006 Lovekill album These Moments Are
Momentum (released on Astro Magnetics, whose partners include
Thursday frontman Geoff Rickley).
Ramsey says the players reformed at the request of Brooklyn
post-punk rockers Nakatomi Plaza to open shows in Cleveland and New
York. There’s no word on whether the new material or band has a
future.
Ramsey has one of the busier dance cards in the city. His band
Afternoon Naps played the 10th annual HHBTM (Happy Happy
Birthday to Me) Fest in Georgia in late August. He’s leading a new
lineup of his lightly poppy band and is close to putting finishing
touches on his next CD. And he fronts the similarly pop-minded
Bears, who also have an album in the works. “A tough thing for
me is deciding which songs should be mine, and which should go to
Bears,” he says.
I Am Champagne performs with Swarm of Bats, Nakatomi Plaza and
Attica! Attica! at 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, at the Grog Shop (2785
Euclid Heights Blvd., Cleveland Hts.). Tickets: $7.
Robbing Mary will release their new EP Groveland on
Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Barking Spider (11310 Juniper Rd.). Copies
are free while they last. Take a listen to the all-original
alt-roots-rock band at robbingmary.com. The set starts at 9:30
p.m.; there’s no cover.
Way of Life will make their live debut at the Beachland
Ballroom (15711 Waterloo Rd.) on Thursday, Sept. 3. Three members
played in the Veil in the ’90s. Guitarist Jacob English says the
new group sounds like “G N’ R, Social D and the Stones. Straight-up,
no-frills rock, with a touch of the ’90s.” Doors 8 p.m.; tickets
$5.
Inhale/Exhale will release their third CD on Tuesday, October
6.
Bury Me Alive will drop on Christian-metal
foundry Solid State Records, which is also home to genre leaders
Underoath and Demon Hunter. The Akron-Canton band plays Musica (51 E.
Market St., Akron) on Sunday, Sept. 6. Screwtape Letters, Gloriosa Lova
and Darkest Before the Dawn open. Door 7 p.m.; tickets $9.
