Program director Dominic "Nard" Nardella says he had the idea for the benefit while watching graphic news footage from the rubble. Deanna R. Adams will host a release party for her new book, Cleveland's Rock and Roll Roots, on Saturday, February 6 at the Agora Ballroom (5000 Euclid Ave.) In the 127-page volume, Adams collects pictures taken in town from the 1950s through 1980s and provides the stories behind the images. One two-page spread presents onstage pictures of the Doors, the Who and David Bowie, who's dressed like a shirtless Fonzie with Ziggy Stardust hair. Locals pictured include the WIXY staff, the Pretenders, Michael Stanley, a young Joe Walsh and Dennis Kucinich with Buffy Sainte-Marie. Photographers Janet Macoska and George Shuba contributed.
Elm Street Blues will play a live set, with the theme "Rockin' Back the Years." Adams will sign copies of the book. Doors at 7 p.m.; music at 8.

Level-C guitarist Cristina Crago is playing some lighter rock with 11After, the all-female band featuring former Sugar singer D. Cruise. The group opens for Zeppelin tribute Zoso on Saturday, February 6, at the Akron Civic Theatre (182 S. Main St.). Doors at 8 p.m., tickets $15. Crago says Level-C is taking a break, but has material ready for a second album.
