Meet the Band: Chris Bassitt (vocals), Jesea Lee (guitar, vocals), David Vallo (guitar), Justin Albaugh (bass), Phil Evans Jr. (drums).
Social Networking: The band first formed in 2010 when guitarist David Vallo, who had played in several other local hard-rock acts, posted ads on Craigslist and recruited the other members. "He was the brainchild of the whole thing," says singer-guitarist Jesea Lee. The group initially issued the seven-song EP That's What She Said and then followed it up with the mini-EP A Dime a Dozen, a collection of old tunes.
The Following: In a short amount of time, the band's gained a good-sized local following. "We had some good luck and people dig us," says Lee. "We won a battle of the bands to play the Cleveland date on the Warped Tour in 2010 and we opened for Hawthorne Heights and Bowling for Soup." The band also won a contest that put it on the same bill with the Offspring. "We submitted our music, and they liked us the most," says Lee of the Offspring. "We consider them to be an inspiration."
Why You Should Hear Them: Despite the insipid title, the new album, When Dinosaurs Get Drunk, shows some maturity. Even sneering raucous opening tune, "Hahaha," is a catchy song with pretty pop melodies that belie the song's revenge fantasy. "I think we started off as a pop-punk band, but we tried to mature our sound," says Lee. "We consider ourselves a good rock band. We got ballads and punky pop songs and other stuff. In the coming months, the band will shoot a music video for the song "Coming Home" which is their "Journey-like ballad." "We hope to get some music licensing and stuff like that," says Lee. "We're very energetic live, but we love the Beatles and the Who and just want to write good songs."
