Cleveland Native Richard Patrick of Filter Discusses How KiTalbum is Changing the Way We Listen and Purchase Music

Scene: What is a KiTalbum?
Richard Patrick: A KiTalbum is a little box you purchase. Upon opening the box remove the key ball chain and press it up against your phone and it uploads a digital album experience. You get access to the record digitally, all the videos, a chat room, and all the lyrics. Everything is uploaded to your phone and you get to enjoy a tactical experience of a little version of album artwork and information. Photos are included along with a small Filter sticker. It is another way to enjoy your band without hearing it on streaming music service.

Do you need any software or app on your phone or computer to access the KiT Player?

Yes. You download an app called the KiT player. After downloading you will get access to the website. It’s just a lot of fun and people wear the devise around their neck. The device is just cool. Its another way to interact with your favorite bands.

Your current album The Algorithm is on a KiTalbum. What is included in the box?

The Algorithm KiTalbum contains 11 songs.

Do you feel the KiTalbum is the future of how artist share and sell music?

I think so. It is going to be the future. People are really going to fall in love with it.

Have you personally noticed a decline in CD and vinyl album sales in the last year?

I feel it all died back in 2002 with Napster. Albums died immediately. We never recovered nor did the industry. A guy from an online music app gave himself a 400 million dollar bonus while most of us see pennies from the websites.

Filter currently has 8 studio albums. Will you be releasing any past albums on a KiTalbum?

We are going to re-release The Algorithm and include some remixes. Some extra songs, Thoughts And Prayers, American Cliche, and a new song called, All The Good In Us, as well as a tribute to my favorite band U2. It’s amazing. The ultra addition I am calling it.

What is the price point for your bands KiTalbum?

I think is like $24.99 dollars, plus shipping. I don’t know dude how much that is (Richard laughing).

How successful has the KiTalbum been with your Filter fan base?

About three to four hundred thousand have been sold so far. To be honest, I really don’t know (Richard LOL).

You will be performing at the House Of Blues in Cleveland, Ohio February 21, 2025. Will you be selling the KiTalbum at the concerts?

It’s just for the VIP meet and greets. I really don’t know at this time. You can purchase online. We will bring a few. With the VIP the KiT Album is included, but we will sell some at our live shows.

Is there anything you want to share with your Cleveland fans?

We love Cleveland and we want everyone to show up and see us. We perfected a live show over the past 30 years. We are so excited to get back in front of our old town. The first record was recorded in Rocky River, Ohio. Short Bus was recorded in Rocky River and Bay Village. I love Cleveland and miss Cleveland. It’s going to be a great time and will make it a special home coming. We want to have a good time just rocking out.
